Many people suffer from
complications with their wisdom teeth, which results in a lot of pain and
trouble. You can’t concentrate on the daily work, study or professional work. In
some cases, the wisdom teeth extraction is the only way to solve the problem. While
the extraction can help you get rid of continuing pain, but the problem can
become savior if you do not take the required precautions after the extraction.
To prevent long term infection and
gum disease, it is important to follow the dentist’s recommendation about
eating and other habits for post extraction recovery. Some of the tips for
better recovery include:
Rinsing & cleaning- After the
extraction, it’s advisable to not rinse mouth for at least 24 hours. For the
following week, make sure to rinse the socket with warm water and remove food
after every meal. Make sure to add a teaspoon of table salt in water.
Eating- It’s better to not eat
anything hard or drink anything hot for at least 3 hours of the wisdom teeth extraction. The patient is
advised to have a soft diet and excessive chewing may cause more bleeding. Go
gentle with your gums!
Smoking- If you are a smoker and
can’t resist, make sure you don’t for at least four days. This causes delay in
wound healing process and also increases the risk of infection. If you develop an
infection, it may be quite painful.
Alcohol- Though it is a common
sense, but it’s better to know that alcohol consumption can encourage bleeding.
The patient is highly recommended to avoid if he has received sedation.
Dry socket- The dry socket may be
recognized as complication after the extraction of wisdom teeth. This occurs
after approximately 4 percent of all dental extraction cases.
